The difference of 2numbers is 8 and the difference of their squares is 160. Find the numbers?
Read Solution (Total 13)
-
- x-y = 8 ---------(1)
x^2-y^2 = 160
=> (x+y)*(x-y)= 160
=> x+y = 20 ---------(2)
solve 1 & 2
x=14, y = 6 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(23) No(1)
- x-y=8--1
(x-y)(x+y)=160
(8)(x+y)=160
x+y=160/2
x+y=20-->2
add equation 1 and 2 we get
2x=28 then x=14
sub x value in equation 1 we get 14-y=8
then y=6
ans) two numbbers are 14 and 6

- (x+y)*(x-y)= 160
=> x+y = 20 ---------(2)
solve 1 & 2
x=14, y = 6

- 6 and 14
first number be x then next number will be (x+8)
and (x+8)^2-x^2=160
solving equation we get x= 6
next number i.e. x+8 = 14 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- x^2-y^2=(x-y)(x+y)
x+y=160/8=20
x-y=8 +
x+y=20
then by solving x=14 , y=6 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(1)
- numbers are 14 and 6
let numbers a & b
a-b=8
a^2 - b^2 = 160
(a+b)(a-b)=160
(a+b)* 8=160
a+b=8
solving a+b and a-b we get a=14 and b=6 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- in options they had not given 14,6.instead they gave 6,14 and none of these. which option suits for this question?

- in given ques..
let two no. is X and Y
SO.
X-Y=8................(1)
X^2-Y^2=160................(2)
FROM EQUATION (2)
(X+Y)(X-Y)=160
X-Y=8
X+Y=20...(3)
EQN 1 & 3
ADD BOTH EQN
2X=28
ANS....
X=14 &
Y=6 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- according to question , x-y=8 & x^2-y^=160
now, (x+y)*(x-y)=160
(x+y)*8=160
(x-Y)=20
s0 , 2*x=28 ,s0 x=14 and y=6 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- no. is 6 and 14.
let 1st no be x , then 2nd be x+8
then (x+8)^2-x^2=160
after solving this we get 1st no x=6 and 2nd no is 14. - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- 14,6
a+b=20,a-b=8 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- 14,6
a-b=8......(1)
a^2-b^2=160
(a+b)(a-b)=160
sub (a-b) value in above eqn
a+b=20....(2)
solve 1&2
you get a=14&b=6 - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- 6,14 is the ans
