- ans. 1st method-Diff in X and Y ages i.e (X-Y)=12yrs
4yrs ago- (X=2Y),which means 'X' will be elder than 'Y'
(X-4)=2(Y-4)
On solving these equations ,we get
X=28yrs while Y=16yrs
2nd Method-
Shortcut Hint -
keep a glance over the options given
option (B) and (D)cannot be possible as the difference b/w the ages of X and Y is 10yrs (24-14=10,which is nt possible as the difference should be of 12yrs)and -12yrs (8-20=-12yrs,which is nt possible as the difference should be of plus ie +12yrs ,as we are talking abt their ages and nt the past) resp. So, both these options are in any case nt possible. Similarly option (C)is also nt possible.
Hence the answer is option (A) - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
