If the numerator of a fraction is increased by 200% and the denominator is increased by 250% the resultant fraction is 3/14. What is the original fraction?

- Let the number be x/y.
200% of x is 2x and 250% of y is 5/2y
Hence we have 2x + x =3x and y + 5/2y = 7/2y
Hence resultant fraction should be 6x/7y = 3/14=6/28
Hence the original fraction will be 1/4.

- Let P and Q be the original numerator and denominator respectively.
P when increased by 200% becomes, P + P(200/100) = P (100 + 200)/100 = 300P/100
Q when increased by 250% becomes, Q + Q(250/100) = Q (100 + 250)/100 = 350Q/100
According to the question, (300P/100) / (350Q/100) = 3/14
Or 300P/350Q = 3/14
