Gaurav buys milk at Rs. 60 per litre, adds water to it and then sells it at Rs. 75 per litre. What should be the ratio of milk to water to get a profit of 37.5%?

- When cp= Rs 60 and sp= Rs 75, gaurav gets profit of
profit= (sp-cp)/cp *100
=(75-60)/60*100
=25%
So for getting CP at 37.5% profit at same selling price.
=75*(100/137.5)= 7500/137.5= (100*6*12.5)/(11*12.5)=600/11
So pure milk= new cp/old cp= (600/11)/60=10/11
As pure milk=10/11
so water fraction will be=1-(10/11)=1/11
so ratio of milk to water=(10/11) / (1/11)
=10:1 - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(21) No(1)

- if Gain and SP is given then CP=SP*(100/100+gain)
CP of mixture=75*(100/100+37.5)=600/11
Mean CP=600/11
now
CP of water=0 and CP of pure milk=60 (given)
so
Quantity of water/Quantity of milk = (CP of pure milk-mean CP) / (mean CP - CP of water)
=(60-(600/11) ) / ((600/11)-0)
=(60/11 - 600/11)
=1/10 Ans. - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(11) No(4)
- The cost price of the mixture = (100/137. 5)(75) = 600/11.
∴
Fraction of purespirit in the mixture = (600/11) ÷ 60 = 10/11.
∴
the fraction of water is 1/11.
