This is a good case of supposition and contradiction method to solve such problems.
Suppose A is to find its place as 1st or 2nd, then He must lie but the statement that He is not the last will become true, and thus A can never come at 1st or 2nd place.
Out of 4 left i.e B,C,D,E, 6 sets viz BC, BD, BE, CD, CE, ED can come at 1st and 2nd
In case of
BD: Then D, B are to be liar, D said B is in 1st place , it means B is in 2nd place and thus 1st place is for D, but as rest of the people are to be correct E must be correct which says D is not the first. SO contradiction.
Likewise All the cases can be supposed and contradicted, only at 1st place and 2nd place B,C can come, so D has to be true and thus B comes 1st,
So the correct order is
