there is a 4 inch cube painted on all sides. this is cut
into no of 1 inch cubes. what is the no of cubes which have no
pointed sides.

- No. of 1 inch cubes used =4^3/1=64.
To find the total cubes only on the surface of the cube(not inside), use this formula-->2[x^2+x(x-2)+(x-2)^2], where x is length of the side. In this case 4. So substitute 4, we get 56. But these are painted cubes so subtract from the total,we get unpainted cubes 64-56=8
Note: For cuboid to find surface cubes, formula is 2[xy+y(z-2)+(x-2)(z-2)], where x,y,z are length,breadth and hight of the cuboid.
