If you had an infinite supply of water and a 5 quart and 3 quart pail, how would you measure exactly 4 quarts?

• Fill 5 quart pail. Empty it out into 3 quart pail. You have remaining 2 quarts in 5 quart pail. Empty the 3 quart pail out and fill it with the remaining 2 quarts. Again fill 5 quarts. From this, fill 3 quart pail. It needs only 1 more quart.
  
  There will be 4 quarts remaining in the 5 quart pail.

• fill 5q pail. empty it into 3q pail. throw away the 3q. fill 3q with the remaining 2q in 5q pail. refill 5q and from it fill up remaining 1q of 3q pail. there will be exactly 4 quarts remaining in the 5quarts pail.

• since there is infinite supply of water,take 3 quarts of water 3 times and then remove 5 quarts of water from it one time since (3*3=9quarts and 9-5=4 quarts)
