Alligation or Mixture
A mixture of a certain quantity of milk with 16 litres of water is worth 90p per litre. if pure milk be worth Rs.1.08 per litre, how much milk is there in the mixture ??
Read Solution (Total 5)
-
- let the mixture contain 'x' lit of milk and already given 16lit of water
as water don't cost (x+16) lit of mixture = x lit of pure milk
(x+16)90=(x*1.08*100) /*since given in paise*/
x=80lit - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(22) No(0)
- 80 ltrs
By rule of mixtures
the ratio of milk : water is 5:1
therefore the quantity of milk in the mixture is 5 x 16 =80 ltrs

- let the amount of milk is x lit.
108x=90x+16*90

let the price of water=rs.0
According to question
c.p of pure milk=rs.1.80
c.p of mixture=rs.0.90
by using alligation method,
(0.9-0):(1.8-0.9)
1:1
