Time Distance and Speed
A man walks at a rate of 10 mph. After every ten miles, he rests for 6 minutes. How much time doeshe take to walk 50 miles?
Read Solution (Total 5)
-
- he walks 10 miles in one hour.
he walks 50 miles in 1*5= 5 hours.
for every 10 miles he rests for 6 minutes.
so , for 50 miles he rests for 6 *4 = 24 minutes.
totally he walk 50 miles in 5hrs 24 mins .... - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(15) No(0)
- Time = Distance /Speed.
Hence, the time taken by the man to walk 10 miles is 10miles/10 mph = 1 hour.Since the man walks 50 miles in five installments of 10 miles each, each installment should take him 1hour. Hence, the total time for which he walked equals
5 x 1 hr = 5 hr = 5 x 60 = 300 mins.
Since he takes a break after each installment (until reaching the 50 mile point; one after 10 miles; one after20 miles; one after 30 miles; final one after 40 miles.
The 50th mile is his destination.), he takes four breaks;and since each break lasts 6 minutes, the net time spent in the breaks is
4x6 mins = 24 mins.
Hence, the total time taken to reach the destination is 300 + 24 = 324 mins - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(6) No(1)
- WALKING TIME=50/10=5HOURS..........
THERE WILL BE 4GAPS SO:4*6=24
SO 5HOURS24MIN

- Time taken to walk 50 miles= dist/speed=50miles/10mph=5hrs.
Time taken to rest after every 10 miles= (50miles/10miles)*6min=5*6=30min.
Total time taken=5hrs 30min. - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(2)
- He takes 5 hours and 24 minutes or 5.4 hours to walk 50 miles.
1hour*5times=5hours
6minutes*4times=24
