From a vessel 1/3 rd of liquid evaporates on the first day and on the second day 3/4 of the remaining liquid evaporates.what fraction of volume is present at the end of second day?
Read Solution (Total 7)

- Answer is 1/6.for example take 30 ltrs in that 1/3rd is evaporates,it means that 10 ltrs are gone and remaining 20 ltrs are there. From that 3/4 evaporates it means that 15 ltrs get evaporates so remaining is 5 ltrs(i.e) 1/6 of total volume.

- TAKE X
AFTER 1 DAY= X-X/3 = 2X/3
AFTER 2 DAY= 2X/3 * 3/4 = X/2
AFTER 3 DAY= 2X/3 - X/2 = X/6 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(7) No(1)
- ans: 50%
first day remaining 1-(1/3)=2/3
second day 3/4*(2/3)=1/2 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(6) No(8)
- Let x be the total liquid in the vessel, then according to question,
first day=(1/3)*x
second day=(2/3)of(1-1/3)of x=(2/3)*(1-1/3)* x
third day=x-(1/3)*x-(2/3)*(1-1/3)* x=1/6 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(1)
- let total liquid = x
evaporated liquid on 1st day = x/3
evaporated liquid on 2nd day =(x/3)*(3/4)= x/4
then amount of liquid evaporated=(x/3)+(x/4)=(7x)/12
hence fraction of volume is present at the end of second day=x-(7x)/12=(5x)/12.

- let total liquid be 300,after first day remaining is 200 as 1/3 of 300 is evaporated, now on second day 3/4 of 200 is evaporated so remaining liquid is 50 as 3/4*200=150,so total 50 remains from 300 which is 1/6 of given 300!!!!
