a milk solution has has milk and water in the ratio 3:2. what part of the solution has to be substituted with water so as to reverse the ratio of milk and water in the solution?
a)half
b)1/3
c)1/4
d)1/5
Read Solution (Total 4)

- ans:b.1/3
milk:water=3:2=>60% and 40%
reverse ratio=2:3=>40% and 60%
=60%(1/3)=20%
so add 20%milk to 40%water we get 60%water that is 2:3
so ans is 1/3 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(7) No(0)
- ans is half
we have ratio of 3:2
total solution is 3+2=5 , which contains 60% of milk and 40% .
now if half of solution i.e 2.5 is substituted with water then ratio becomes 3:4.5...it can be reduced to 2:3 which is reverse of the previous ratio. - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(5) No(0)
- suppose suloution y litre then milk ratio y/3 and water ratio y/2 and according to question some solution take out and use water on that place suppose that milk will decrease (z) and water increase (p) but soultion would be y litre only ratio change (3-z)/(2+p)=2/3 eqution will be 5=3z+2p it means sure z=p=1 litre it means take out 1/5 litre of total solution

- ans: 1/3
let x lt substituted then
3-(3x/5) / 2-(2x/5)+x=2/3
45-9x=20+6x
x=5/3
previous quantity is 5 so.
1/3 is ans - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
