There are two boxes one containing 26 red balls and other containing 24 green balls. You are allowed to move the balls between the boxes so that you choose a box randomly. From the chosen box, the probability of getting red ball is maximized. The maximum probability is

- To maximize we can transfer 25 balls from red box to green box so that now in green box there are total 49 balls out of them 25 are red and other 24 are green balls.Other box contains only one red ball. so ,now probability of getting red ball from green ( second) box is = 25/49.
hence total probability is 1/2+1/2(25/49)= 74/98 = 37/49 - 13 years agoHelpfull: Yes(14) No(0)
- select one box among them and if it is red box then probability is 1/2 for getting red ball.
now consider another case to maximize we can transfer the balls from red box to gree box so transer 9 balls from red box to green box now in green box there are total 19 balls out of them 9 are red and other are green so ,for this situation taking red ball probability is :1/2(9/19).
hence total probability is 1/2+1/2(9/19)==1/2+9/38==28/38==14/19 is the answer. - 13 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(11)
