In a hockey match betwwen India Pakistan , india is lagging behind two goals against pak, with the last 5 min of time remaining. Will india win?
I.Dhanraj scores 3 goals in the last five minutes.
II.Pak scores three goals in total
Read Solution (Total 16)
-
- India will win.
Scores before last 5 minute.
INDIA - n
PAKISTAN - n+2.
1. Dhanraj scores 3 goals in the last five minutes.
If Dhanraj belongs to INDIAN team then india will win.If not then INDIA will be defeated.
But 2nd Statement says that :-
II.Pak scores three goals in total.
And n+2 goals they have scored before last five minute. So in the last 5 minute they have scored minimum = 0 max = 1 goal. if Dhanraj belong to PAKISTAN then then the above conclusion will fail(As PAKISTAN will score n+2+3 (>5)). So Dhanraj will belong to INDIA team.
Total Score of INDIA in the END = n+3.
Total Score of PAKISTAN will be = n+2.
So INDIA will WIN.

- statement 1 & 2 are not sufficient to give the answew
Explanation:even we don't knw "dhanraj" is belonging to which team...
it is possible "dhanraj"is from pak team and it is also possible dhanraj hits all the three goals and india hits only 1 gole
from both the statement clear clue is not coming.... - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(39) No(14)
- it cant be answer using any of the statement .for eg: supoose in a 70 minute game till 65th minute scores can be 3-1 or 2-0.if it is a case of 3-1 then v can say india ll win but if it is a case of 2-0 then it ll be a draw.

- Both 1 & 2 are not sufficient.
There are 2 cases.
Case 1: When 5 minutes are remaining, score is 3-1
In this case, the match will end at score 3-4 => India wins.
Case 2: When 5 minutes are remaining, score is 2-0
Dhanraj will score 3 goals & Pakistan scores 1 more goal(as per statement 2)
So in this case the final score will be 3-3. => Match drawn. - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(18) No(0)
- ans : both statements are not sufficient to answer the question.
expl: As india is lagging behind 2 goals against pak with 5mins of time remaining and the total number of goals scored by pak team is 3, there are two cases[(0,2)(1,3)].
Also, Dhanraj belongs to team india, since india is lagging by 2 goals the minimum goals score by pak will be 2 and addition of 3 more goals (according to statement 1) will contradict the statement 2.
case 1: ind 0 - 2 pak
in last 5 mins, Dhanraj scores 3 goals for india and pak scores 1 goal(statement 2)
final score, ind 3 - 3 pak
match drawn.
case 2: ind 1 - 3 pak
in last 5mins, dhanraj scores 3 goals (statement 1)
final score, ind 4 - 3 pak.
india wins.

- India will win.
Scores before last 5 minute. India is lagging behind two goals against Pakistan.i.e., india is low score than Pakistan before last 5 minutes.
So, INDIA - n
PAKISTAN - n+2.
1. Dhanraj scores 3 goals in the last five minutes.
If Dhanraj belongs to INDIAN team then india will win.If not then INDIA will be defeated.
But 2nd Statement says that :-
II.Pak scores three goals in total.
And n+2 goals they have scored before last five minute. So in the last 5 minute, they have scored minimum = 0 max = 1 goal. if Dhanraj belong to PAKISTAN then then the above conclusion will fail(As PAKISTAN will score n+2+3 (>5)). So Dhanraj will belong to INDIA team.
Total Score of INDIA in the END = n+3.
Total Score of PAKISTAN will be = n+2.
So INDIA will WIN.

- does anyone know dhanraj is in which team? :-p
- 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(1)
- Both statements are needed to give the answer.
- 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- Actually the question has to be read carefully...
1-ques. says india is lagging behind 2 goals against pakistan...before five minutes..
2-which means that the minimum no of goals pakistan is having before 5 min is 2 and for india it is 0.
3-now if take the first statement answer could not be found but taking 2nd sentence also..
4-it says that pakistan scored total of 3 goals ... so if we consider dhanraj as pakistani player...then pakistan with 2 goals before 5 min...after the match pakistan will be having 5 goals of total...
5-which contradicts our 2nd statement...therefore dhanraj is indain player and india was having 1 goal before last 5min...and after match there were 4 goals and pakistan was having 3 goals all total which were hit before last 5 min...
6-and thus india wins - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)

- 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- both statement required
using both statement - it is clear that dhanraj doesn't belong to pak
