A Shopkeeper divides an ice-cream brick in two halves, then cut one of the halves into several smaller portions of equal size. Each of the smaller portions weights 12 grams. The shopkeeper now has a total of 5 portions. How heavy was the original brick?
Read Solution (Total 13)
-
- 96gms
Since there are 5 portions, 4 small portions of equal size and one half of original ice-cream brick.
1 small portion = 12 grams
4 small portion = 4*12 = 48grams
Therefore weight of original ice-cream brick = 48*2 = 96grams

- let the total weight be x grams
first he made it into two halves that is x/2 and x/2.
he divided one x/2 into 4 parts since he had a total of five portions.
that means x/2 is made into 4 parts of x/8 and each part weighs 12 grams.
this implies x/8=12 and x=96 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(12) No(0)
- total portions are 5 so one portion is half of brick and other 4 portions are smaller portions.total weight of smaller portions is=12*4=48grams.
so weight of other half is also 48grmas.
weight of original brick is=48+48=96grams - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(0)
- There are five pieces
So, 1 half+ 4 other pieces making other half
Wt of half ice cream= 12gm *4= 48gm
Total wt= 48gm*2=96 gm - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(0)
- 96
12*4=48
48+48=96 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(0)

- 96 gm..
total 5 portion
1(original)=4(small portion)+1
4 small portion=12*4=48
nther 48 gm
so 48 plus 48 =96 - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- let original weight be x. then
x/2/4=12
x=96 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- since 1 hlf hs been cut into smaller pieces of 12 g ech so, another hlf portion is cnsidered as 1 piece.
i.e., 4*12=48g 1 portion
so, total weight=48*2=96g - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- 120gms
Since there are 5 portions, 5 small portions of equal size and one half of original ice-cream brick.
1 small portion = 12 grams
5 small portion = 5*12 = 60grams
Therefore weight of original ice-cream brick = 60*2 = 120grams

- 120grms equivalent to 1/2 brick divided in 5 mean 5x12gms(each of 1gm)=60
1/2+1/2=60+60=120gms - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(1)

- 1 icecream=1/2part+1/2part;
1/2part=x similar parts;
1 of the 1/2part=12x ;
now 1 icecream=5portions;
i.e. 5 portion=(1/2)1+(12*4)
12*4=48gmfor 1/2part and 48 for another 1/2part
total=48+48=96gm original weight - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
