Time and Work
. A and B can do a work in 20 and 30 days respectively. If they have one-day holiday after every four days of working in how many days can they complete the whole work?
(1) 12 (2) 14 (3) 16 (4) 15
Read Solution (Total 20)

- we know , A and B work whole work in 20 and 30 days , it means when we take LCM it should be 60 unit work they have to complete so A can complete 3 unit per day (60/20) adn B complete 2 unit per day(60/30) then A+B=3+2=5 unit per day
So 60 unit whole work (60 units/5 units per day) it means 12 days to complete but 2 holidays will be there so Ans will be 14 days - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(30) No(0)
- 14 days.
12 days to complete+2 days holiday
12+2=14 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(5) No(0)
- a+b take 20+30/(20*30) days to complete that is 12 days
if after 4 days is holiday there will be lack of 2days
so 12+2=14 days - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(0)
- @KIRTI......
IF A can complete a work in 20 days and take rest at 4 days mean
1 2 3 4 _5 will be rest day
6 7 8 9 _10 rest
11 12 13 14 _15 rest
16 17 18 19 _20 rest day
mean he will complete the work in 24 days
now if we see B will complete the work 36 days like
1 2 3 4 _5 rest
6 7 8 9 _10rest
_15
_20
25
30 mean he can complete the work in 30 days but after taking rest 36 days
so
1/A+1/B=1/24+1/36
=3/36
=1/12
A+B=12 THEY AN COMPLETE THE WORK IN 12 DAYS
KIRTI NOW GOT OR NOT.........

- dnt make it much complex,
1/20+1/30=1/12
worked for 4 days then,(1/12)*4=1/3
to complete work 2/3
will have to work for again 2 times
but they are having holiday in between..so,the calcluate 14 days is answer

- A & B do 60 wrk.....A do alone 2 wrk/day....B do 2wrk/ day.
hence total work is 5/day....
hence 60 work can be done in 12 days(60/5)
but there z holiday after 4 working day so total day =12+2=14days - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- ans - (b) 14

- 20+30/20*30=12 days
2 holiday so 12+2=14 days - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)

- work done by A & B in 4 days= 4(1/20+1/30)= 1/3
so evidently remaining work will be finished by them in= (1-1/3)/(1/20+1/30)= 8days
considering the holidays in between total days needed will be= 12days of work+ 2days of holiday= 14days
so option (2) is correct - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- 4/20+4/30=1/3 amount of work is done in 4 days. similarly whole work is done in 14 days
