What is the minimum number of cuts required to cut a cube into 8 pieces
Read Solution (Total 7)

- 3 minimum number of cuts required to cut a cube into 8 pieces.
In 1st cut, cube divide into two pieces.
In 2nd cut, it will be divide either three or four pieces.(its upon axis of cut)
In 3rd cut, it will be maximum divided into 8 pieces. (Minimum four pieces)
So, 3 minimum cut required to cut a cube into 8 pieces. - 13 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(2)
- Ans: 10 cuts
Minimum number of cuts is obtained, when we distribute the cuts along all three axes... That means, number of pieces along all three axes will also be distributed. The most distributed such product of 80 is 80 = 4 * 4 * 5.
To make n+1 pieces, we need n cuts. So, we need to make 3 cuts along one dimension, 3 along a second dimension and 4 along a third dimension, making a total of 10 cuts... - 13 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(3)
- Try any way, you wont get 80 pieces with fewer than 10 cuts. Ofcourse, this is with the assumption that the cuts are made by a plane, which is trivial to infer. That is because, the number of intersections of two planes remains a single line, as long as they intersect and do not overlap, and with multiple planes available, the maximum cuts is obtained, when the cuts re distributed along the three dimensions, as equally as possible.

- 3 cuts ,1st we 'll cut into 2 halves and we 'll make another cut on those two halves to get 4 and after cutting those four parts we get eight.

Yes, the question does not say about parallel cutting. We can perhaps get minimum cuts to get 80 pieces by axial cutting - 13 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(1)
