8 matches wii remove 8 teams.so 9 teams will remain.

in the next level,
4 matches will remove 4 teams.so 5 teams will remain.

in the next level,
2 matches will remove 2 teams.so 3 teams will remain.

in the next level,
1 match will remove 1 team.so 2 teams will remain.

then the final match takes place to decide the winner.
so total of 8+4+2+1+1=16 matches

16 matches...........we need to pick one winner.......means to eliminate other 16.......we can eliminate one person in 1game......so 16 needed
