A car manufacturer produces only red and blue models which come out of the final testing area completely at random. What are the odds that 5 consecutive cars of the same color will come through the test area at any one time?
a)1 in 16
b)1 in 125
c)1 in 32
d)1 in 25

Solution

The probability for the question will be 1/16 and answer of KAPIL is right but question is saying about odds and odds mean favorable probability/non favorable probability = (1/16)/(15/16) = 1/15
odds has two category 1) in favour 2) against
odds in favour = favorable probability/non favorable probability
odds against = non favorable probability/ favorable probability

hence p(5 cars of same color) = (1/2)^5 + (1/2)^5
ans = 1/16

Selecting of red color car or blue color car at random is 1/2. Therefore probability of 5 consecutive car of the same color come through test at the same time is 1/2*1/2*1/2*1/2*1/2=1/32
