5^3-3^3 = 125 -27 = 98 cubes are required.

Pls check.
If u want to make a hollow cube of 5x5 from a solid 5x5 cube, you have to remove a 3x3 cube from inside the solid cube.
so
5^3-3^3 = 125 -27 = 98 cubes are required.

total no. of cube=(5^3)-(3^3)=98

i explain it .....
hollow cube means not internal part of the cube is filled, cubes at only edges in hollow cube so in 5*5*5 size cube internal 3*3*3 cubes are not touched to main cube edges so we can remove these edges

you tell about 7*7*7 cube
7*7*7-5*5*5
just subtract two(one one for each side edges)
