Age og child : B)4 yrs

let d ages of the couple be 'a' and 'b'
-> since the avg was 23 5 years ago.. the avg currently would be 28 yrs..
-> hence, (a+b)/2=28... a+b=56
the avg of couple n child's age is 20
let age of child be 'c'
hence, a+b+c=20*3=60...
thus, age of child is 4yrs

x-5+y-5=23*2;
x+y=56;
again, let z be child,
so, x+y+z=20*3;

average of today =23+5=28;
average of child and couple today= (2*28+child)/3=20;
so child =60-56=4 yr

ANSWER: B [4 yrs]
SOLUTION:
Say, Cm,Cf,c are representing current ages of Couple-male, Couple-female and Child.
Avg. of couple [2 people], 5 yrs ago= 23 yrs.
So, (Cm-5)+(Cf-5)=2*23=46 => Cm+Cf=56
Avg. of couple+child [3 people], now=20yrs.
So, (Cm+Cf+c)=3*20=60
We've already found the value of (Cm+Cf) i.e., 56.
Therefore, c=60-56=4 yrs [Child's current age=4yrs]

4 let x be the age of couple added together at present,then (x-10)/2=23,
therefore x=56. let the age of child be y,then (56+y)/3=20,so y=4.

we have x+y-10/2=23
so we have x+y=56
given average of couple and child as 20yrs
let child age be z years
then,x+y+z/3=20
as we know value of x+y,substitute this 56 value in above equation
56+z/3=20
so z=4yrs,which is the age of child.
answer is 4yrs

before 5 yrs avg age was 23 yrs. so present age will be 23 + 5 = 28; but given that the avg of three is 20 but the age of couple 28+28. thus 28-20= 8. and for couple it will be 8+8 = 16.
