total=800m
16m per min means for 1m=800/16 =50min to climb
10m per min means for 1m=800/10=80min to climb for paul .....the total time is 2hours==120min....so,time taken for rest by paul is 120-80=40min

16m per min means for 1m=800/16 =50min to climb
10m per min means for 1m=800/10=80min to climb for paul .....the total time is 2hours==120min.... paul works only 1 min. but it rests 1 min. so now total work
with rest 2 min. so then in 80 min it will be rest (80/2)=40 times.but in case of 50 minutes rest numbers will be less.here maximum number of resets are asked.so answer is 40(c)

16m per min means=800/16 =50min to climb
10m per min means=800/10=80min to climb
the total time is 120min
so,time taken for rest by paul is 120-80=40min
n each rest is for one min so maximun no of rest are 40(C).......NAVJYOT

MAX NO OF REST IN CASE 1ST=50 OF 2MIN
MAX NO OF REST IN CASE 2ND=80 OF 1MIN
SO IN ABOVE TWO CASES CASE2 HAS MAX NO OF REST.
SO CONSIDER SECOND CASE TOTAL TIME=120, CLIMBING TIME IS 80 MIN.
DIFF IS 120-80=40MIN.
AND EACH REST IS OF ONE MIN SO 40(C) NO TIME PAUL WILL REST THAT IS MAXIMUM.

But in the question it has been mentioned that each takes exactly 3 hours to reach the top then how can he reach in 50 or 80 mins?

There are two rates at which Paul can ascend the mountain:
First:
10m in 2mins(including rest) i.e. == 5m/min
Second:
16m in 3mins(including rest) i.e. ~~ 5.3m/min
Now obviously 2nd one if faster. If we take that in account in 2 hours he can climb:
5.3x120 = 636m
which I believe is less than 800m
So, No matter how hard he tries he just can't do it.
Boy isn't typing a pain, specially by keyboard. No auto correction.
