2*2 squares = 11*5 = 55
3*3 squares = 10*4 = 40
4*4 squares = 9*3 = 27
5*5 squares = 8*2 = 16

Friends By taking 13C2 * 7C2, you are also selecting rectangles. If number of rectangles were asked ans would have been 1638. BALAKRISHNAN is right. ans will 1*1 squares = 12*6 = 72
2*2 squares = 11*5 = 55
3*3 squares = 10*4 = 40
4*4 squares = 9*3 = 27
5*5 squares = 8*2 = 16
6*6 squares = 7*1 = 7
Total squares = 217

for an M*N grid,the total no of squares will be (nm(n+1)(m+1))/4

12 => 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10 => 78
6 => 1+2+3+4+5+6 => 21

78 * 21 => 1638

there is no such solution for finding squares in a m*n grid, for finding squares in a grid the grid needs to be square as well
for n*n grid no. of squares = (n*(n+1)*(2n+1))/6

ans is 106.
72/(1*1)=72
72/(2*2)=18
72/(3*3)=8
72/(4*4)=4 with 8 as remainder(only maximum sq. POSSIBLE)
72/(5*5)=2 with 22 as reminder...........".............
72/(6*6)=2
total sq.=72+18+8+4+2+2=106
