solution:
1)first two husbands goes to another side
2)then one husband comes back
3)then one couple will go
4)then second husband comes back
so in this 4 ways 1 couple reach to another side
so for 4 couples there are 16 ways

first there are 4 ways for a couple to reach another side one by one =4 ways

secondly 2 husband can go together
now there are 4 husband so we have to select 2 out of 4
4c2 ways= 4!/(4-2)!2!=6
thirdly 2 wives can go together
now there are 4 Wives so we have to select 2 out of 4
4c2 ways= 4!/(4-2)!2!=6

so 4+6+6=16
16 is answer

they travel 1st husband can travel 3times
2nd husband can travel 2times
3rd husband can travel 1time
they travel 1st wife can travel 3times
2nd wife can travel 2times
3rd wife can travel 1time
4couples can travel 4times
total=16

tow husbands will go together than one come back and carry his wife and then other one come and take a man and so on so ans should be 4*4=16

we have 4 couple
solution:

Every husband can travel with others 3 husband and his own wife. so every husband has 4 options.
There are 4 husbands. So 4 * 4 (no. of husbands * no. of options) = 16
