Total Vertical Distance bug has to through = 24 cm
Circumference of pipe= 14 cm
Since bug has to move to diametrically opposite side, it has to cover half of the circumference = 14/2 = 7 cm

SO by Pythagoras, diagonal distance would be = sqrt(7^2+24^2) = sqrt(625) = 25 cm

the diagram can be seen as..

we have to find out the diagonal distance. here in this trapezium. it is opp so altitude is 7. parallel side is 48 & 24. the hypo comes out to be sqrrt(24^2 + 7^2) = 25

the bug is at the hight of 48cm ad the honey is at 24 cm
the difference in hight is 24 cm
and the circumference is give as 14 but the bug must only travel half of the pipe so the distance is 7 cm
now to find the shortest path is,
it forms a right angler triangle.
so,x^2=7^2+24^2
therefore, x=25 cm

answer is 24
first we have to calulate the diameter which is 49/11
then by Pythagoras,sqrt root( 24^2-(49/11)^2)=23.58 from top
then 48-23.58=24.42 ,i.e. approx 24

Difference if heights of honey and bug is 24 answer will obviously be greater than 24 thus 25 is the answer
