Total Distance 24 km
Let speed of the man is X km/hr
in 1hr 40min he walked (5x/3) [(Note :- 1hr 40 min ==> 1(40/60) ==>1(2/3) ==>5/3 )]
Remaining distance = Total distance-distance covered by him in 1hr 40min
i.e.,Remaining dist=24-(5x/3)km
Atlast he noticed that the distance covered by him was 5 of the remaining distance
5x/3 = 5(24-(5x/3))
By solving we get X value i.e.., speed of the man in km/hr
by converting km/hr into m/s we willget the final answer

speed in meter per second
distanec= 24 x 1000 = 24000 meter
time = 60 + 40 = 100 minute
speed = 24000/100 = 240 m/second

distanec= 24 x 1000 = 24000 meter
time = 60 + 40 = 100 minute
= 100*60 seconds
= 6000 seconds
speed = 24000/6000 = 4 m/second

speed = d/t, so 24*1000/100*60 = 4 m/s
