Solution

persons who can speak English = 1 - (1/5) = 4/5
persons who can speak Hindi = 1 - (3/7) = 4/7
persons who can speak any or both = 1 - 1/10 = 9/10
so total persons speak both = 4/5 + 4/7 - 9/10 = 33/70
persons speak any = 1 - 33/70 - 1/10 = 3/7
% = 300/7

If there are 70 people,
7 speak neither Hindi nor English. 14 cannot speak English and 30 cannot speak Hindi.
No. of people who know only one language= 30+14-7 =27.
percentages of people who know only one language= 100*27/70= 270/7 % = 38.57%

How many values of x are possible?

Possible answers are 3 values even if 0 is not considered.

as x can have values -1,1,2 .

Pls check and correct ur solution pls.

population knowing no language=(H'intersect'E)=1/10
so,people knowing atleast one language = (1-1/10)=9/10 or 90%

percentage of people who cannot speak hindi = 3/7
percentage of ppl who cannot speak english = 1/5
percentage of people who cannot speak both = 1/10

now we have the formula;
P(A union B ) = P(A ) + P(B) - P(A intersection B)

hence ;
P(of ppl who cannot speak hindi or english or both) = (1/5) + (3/7) - (1/10) =175/350
Now, Probability of ppl who can speak only one language = (P of ppl who cannot speak hindi or english or both) - (P of ppl who cannot speak both) = (175/30) - (1/10) = 140/350 = 0.4 = 40%
