your ans. is wrong. it should be only 1st statement fulfill the condition.
from 2nd condition there are two value (+8) & (-8). that's not clear what is the value,cuz there are two values from 2nd equation.
SO PERFECT ANSWER IS (A) only 1st alone fulfill the condition.

only we have to find out the value of x+y whatever it is so
1)x+y=8
2)x+y = +8,-8
so answer can be given by any of the statement

Mr. Anup is it asked in the question any unique value.. No..
They asked what is the value of x+y only this.. So 1st can easily be understood nd 2nd give values +8,-8 but it gives the value and it gives the value all knows it is a quadratic equation so value can unique but it gives value.. So both r sufficient to give the answe

This is data sufficiency ques only 1st statement is sufficient. 2nd statement is giving +- 8 as ans in data sufficiency ans should be unique.. So option A will be the ans

As (x^2-y^2)= (x+y)(x-y)
so, (x+y)(x-y)/(x-y)=8
(x+y)=8
For 2. (x+y)^2=64
(x+y)=(64)^1/2=8
Thus, (x+y)=8 Ans.

can be solved by both....
1.because x^2-y^2=(x+y)(x-y) so x+y=8 .
2.(x+y)^2=64 ,so x+y=8.
correct me if i m wrong..

from first equation we get x+y=8 (confirmed value)

but from from equation 2nd we get x=y=+8,-8 (confused value) so from this we cant givethe answer

bt from First we can get confirmed value of x=y=8

So only equation first is suitable to give the answer.

eq 1. (x-y)(x+y-8)=0 and x!=y means x+y=8
eq 2 . (x+y)(x+y)=64=>x+y=8,-8


so from both eq x+y=8

From statement 1 we can conclude dat x+y =8. From 2 we conclude dat x+y is either 8 or -8.and according to data suffiency we search for unique values which we are only gettng from equation 1 nd nt from 2.So option A.

As 2nd opt. gives two ans +/-8.

Case-1 (x^2-y^2)= (x+y)(x-y)
(x+y)(x-y)/(x-y)=8
(x+y)=8
Case-2
(x+y)^2=64
(x+y)=(64)^1/2=+/_8
in this case we can't determine the unique solution
So case 1 is sufficient to answer So ans is A.

Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient to answer the question.
because both the equations are same 1.(x+y)(x-y)/(x-y) =8 ==> (x+y)=8
2. (x+y) = 8 (taking square root of both side.)
and we have (x+y)= 8 so we have many combination of this equation like (7,1),(6,2)(4,4)
we can not conclude the unique value of x+y.

Correct option is : D
In statement 1, we are getting x+y=8 , but this is only true if x!=y, otherwise division is not valid.
In statement 2, we cannot determine unique value of x+y=+8,-8.

Answer will be 1 . They asked x+y so value must be unique .
in statement we get a unique value 8 but in second statement we get +8 ,- 8 .
So second statement cannot be true.
Ans is 1
