A number of us went out together to a charity fete one day. Our party consisted of four different professional groups, namely 25 writers, 20 doctors, 18 dentists and 12 bank employees. We spent altogether Rs. 1330. Later it was found that 5 writers spent as much as 4 doctors, that 12 doctors spent as much as 9 dentists and that 6 dentists spent as much as 8 bank employees. How much did each of the four professional groups spend ?

let, 5 writer spent=x=4 doctor spent
25 writers spent=5x
20 doctors spent=5x
since 12 doctors spent 3x
so 9 dentist spent 3x
so 18 dentist spent 6x
since 6 dentist spent 2x
so 8 bank employee spent 2x
so 12 bank employee spent 3x
now, 5x+5x+6x+3x=1330
19x=1330
x=70
so, 25 writers spent rs 350
20 doctors spent rs 350
18 dentists spent rs 420
12 bank employees spent rs 210

5 writers spent as much as 4 doctors
5x:4y
12 doctors spent as much as 9 dentists
12y:9z = 4y:3z
6 dentists spent as much as 8 bank employees
6z:8b = 3z:4b
total ratio 5x:4y:3z:4b
writers share = 1330*5/16=415.625
doctors share = 1330*4/16=332.5
dentists share = 1330*3/16=249.375
bank emps share = 1330*4/16=332.5

we dont know hw doc. is related to den. so from last two eqns we can conclude 8doc=8ban
therefore
doc=ban

we can take doc as a common factor

4/5doc+doc+4/3doc+doc=1330

62/15doc=1330

62doc=19950

therefore doc= 321.77
so banker also = 321.77
and writer =4/5doc=257.416
and den = 4/3doc= 429.026

All together 1329.982 approx

let x = amount spent by bank employee
4x/3 = amount spent by dentist
(3/4)(4x/3) = x = amount spent by doctor
4x/5 = amount spent by writer

Therefore, the total amount spent is:
25(4x/5) + 20x + 18(4x/3) + 12x = 1330
20x + 20x + 24x + 12x = 1330
76x = 1330
x = 17.5

The writers and doctors spent (each group) 20x = 350 Rs.
The dentists spent 24x = 420 Rs.
The bank employees spent 12x = 210 Rs.

And just to check: 350+350+420+210 is indeed 1330.

25p+20q+18r+12t=1330
=>25p+20*5/4p+18*5/4*12/9p+12*5/4*12/9*6/8=1330
=>95p=1330
=>p=14
therefore money spent by engineers=>25p=350
money spent by doctors=>20q=20*5/4p=25p=350
money spent by dentists=>18r=18*5/4*12/9p=30p=420
and money spent by bankers=>12s=12*5/4*12/9*6/8 p=15p=210

as 5 writer =4 doctor so ratio will be 1:1 because if we multiply both side with 5 we get same value.for doctor:dentist=12:9=1:3/4. dentist:bank employ= 6:8=3/4:1.
so writer:doctor:dentist:bank employ= 1:1:3/4:1=4:4:3:4.
so writer,doctor,bank employ will spent same amount money=(1330*4/15)=354.67.
and dentist will spent (1330*3/15)=260.
