since per hour b is gaining 10 kms over A. so to gain 120 kms over A total time needed is 12 hour. hence both travelled for 12 hrs
hence distance travelled by A= 40*12=480
and by B= 50*12=600
SO TOTAL DISTANCE IS 480+600=1080 kms.

let A cover x distance in t time with 40 km/hour
and then B cover x+120 distance in t time with 50 km/hour
For A:-
t=x/40
For B:-
t=(x+120)/50
So
x/40=(x+120)/50
x=480
x+120=600
So distance between P and Q is= 480+600=1080km

a's speed is 40k/hr
b's 50k/hr
so,clearly b will travel more than a. bcause B's speed is greater than A's.
now find distance traveled by them
50k/hr-40k/hr=10k/hr*12h=120k
14 km
so time they traveled is 12h
Distanse tvaled by them are res 600k,480k by a&b
Now apply trick 600*600 - 480*480 =14*14
So distance between them Will Be 14km

Ans Is 360 KM
a's speed is 40k/hr
b's 50k/hr
so,clearly b will travel more than a. bcause B's speed is greater than A's.
now find distance traveled by them
50k/hr-40k/hr=10k/hr*12h=120k
so time they traveled is 12h
Distanse tvaled by them are res 600k,480k by a&b
Now apply trick 600*600 - 480*480 =360*360
So distance between them Will Be between them :360 KM

time taken by B to cover 120 kms is 2.4 hrs.
time taken by A to cover the same is 3 hrs.
=> B is ahead of A from 0.6 hrs.
when both trains are travelling in same directions, their speeds are subtracted to find the relative speed.
therefore, distance between P & Q is = (50-40)*0.6=6kms.(as distance=speed*time).

Let takeA travels xKM and B take x+120 KM,from chain rule
40:50::x:x+120(directly proportional) =>50x=40(x+120)
x=480 sototal distance is 2x+120 is 1080.

for same time period distance between A and B is 0. But distance between P and Q is 1080
