x-rupee note = 100x
y-rupee note = 1000y.

a/c to tailor
x-rupee note = 1000x
y-rupee note = 100y.

now he bought a grocery of rs. 500.
so equation will be.

1000x+100y-500 = (100x+1000y)/2
solving we get 19x-8y = 10.
use hit nd trial method to solve this equation.
x = 6 and y= 13 . so total money he had = 100x+1000y = 600+13000 = 13600.
so it lies between 13000 and 14000. option d) is correct.
