suppose you bought x flowers. you give y flowers to each temple.
x
aftr washng=2x, after givng remain=(2x-y) like that
aftr washng=2*(2x-y) aftr givng remain=(4x-2y-y)
aftr washng=2*(4x-3y) aftr givng remain=(8x-6y-y)=(8x-7y)
8x-7y=0
x:y=7:8
so you bought 7 flowers and give 8 to each.

The flower become twice and there are 3 temples
we have to offer equal no of flower to each temple so no of flower we offer to each temple= 2^3 = 8

So no of flower we buy 8-1=7

Consider flowers to be x

After offering to First temple: 2x-y
After offering to Second temple: 4x-2y -z
After offering to Third temple: 8x-4y-2z-k=0
Now y=z=k also 2x-y=4x-2y-z
so x=1

in these types of question. you may use simple logic .
consider the no. of temple = y;and amount of doubling =x:
then , no. of flower bought = (x^y )-1.
and no. of flower distributed in each temple = x^y.
for this question , x=2 and y= 3.
so, no. of flower distributed in each temple = 2^3=8.
the no. of flower bought = 2^3-1=7.

Explanation -
There are three temple we will have to wash the flowers three time

1st Wash-
Washing flowers in pond
Total flowers= 7+7 = 14 (Double )
1st Temple - Offering 8 Flowers
Total flowers= 14-8=6 (remains)

2nd Wash-
Washing flowers in pond
Total flowers =6+6=12 (Double)
2nd Temple - Offering 8 flowers
Total flowers= 12-8=4 (remains)

3rd Wash-
Washing flowers in pond
Total Flowers= 4+4=8 (Double)
3rd Temple - offering 8 flowers
Total Flower=0 (remain)
