5%*x+4%*y=890...(1)
x+y=20000...(2)
solve 1 and 2
x=9000,y=11000

Answer is
9000 Rs @ 5%
and 11000 Rs @ 4%

he invests 9000 in 5% deposit to get a annual return of rs. 450 and 11000 in 4% deposit to get an annual return of rs. 440.
giving a total annual return of rs. 890.
this is a hit and trial method. start by dividing the amount in half which will give the annual return as rs.900 ,as the asked return is less, increase the 4% deposit and decrease the 5% deposit.
