then apple=8+t or 8+l
by solving we get
l+(8+l)=12
2l=4
l=2

from the statement apple costs 8 more than a tomato or lemon, it is clear that the cost of lemon and tomato is same..
(i.e) t+l=4; t=2, l=2..
Therefore the cost of the lemon is Rs.2

lemon+apple=12rs
tomato+lemon=4
then apple= 8+l
so we get
lemon+(8+lemon)=12
2lemon=4
lemon=2
so apple=8+2=10;

consider
(i)apple=Lemon+8
substitute apple value in eq (a)
then Lemon=2, Apple=10, Tomato=2

Lemon+Tomato=4 which is eq (b) already given. there by leaving no solution in case 2.

This is the proper question,, now the answer

given

l+a=12 .....(1)
t+l=4 ......(2)

a=8+t
or
a=8+l

if a=8+t
then
t=a-8

form equation 2 replacing t we get
a-8+l=4
a+l=12

which is same as equation 1 so we don't get any new information

now if a=8+l

from equation (1)
2l+8=12
2l=4
l=2

which makes sense so l is 2

In this question,cost of lemon is asked.
Given:
lemon+apple=12 =>1st equation
tomato+lemon=4 =>2nd equation

In order to find the cost of lemon:

hint:apple is 8rs. more than a lemon,so lemon+8=apple
substitute this equation in 1st equation:
lemon+(lemon+8)=12
=>2l+8=12
=>2l=12-8
=>2l=4
=>l=4/2=2
therefore the cost of lemon is rs.2
now to get apple's cost,substitute the value of lemon in 1st equation:
lemon+apple=12 =>2+apple=12 =>apple=12-2 =>apple=rs.10

answer:lemon=Rs.2
apple=Rs.10
