Let Cost Price(CP) of 1 litre spirit be Rs.1

Quantity of spirit in 1 litre mixture from vessel A = 1/4

Cost Price(CP) of 1 litre mixture from vessel A = Rs. 1/4

Quantity of spirit in 1 litre mixture from vessel B = 3/8

Cost Price(CP) of 1 litre mixture from vessel B = Rs. 3/8

Quantity of spirit to be obtained in 1 litre mixture from vessel C = 1/3

Cost Price(CP) of 1 litre mixture from vessel C = Rs. 1/3 = Mean Price

By the rule of alligation, we can write as
CP of 1 litre mixture from vessel A CP of 1 litre mixture from vessel B
1/4 3/8

Mean Price
1/3
1/3 - 3/8 = - 1/24 1/4 - 1/3 = -1/12

=> Mixture from Vessel A : Mixture from Vessel B = - 1/24 : - 1/12 = 1 : 2 = Required Ratio
