when B meets A at Z, B has walked the distance XY+YZ and A covered the distance XZ i.e both of them have together covered twice of distance b/w X and Y i.e 2*27=54km. now rates of A and B iz 5:7 and the have walked 54km. hence distance XZ is 5/12 of 54 =22.5km.

Answer is 22.49 km (approx)


B travells X to Y in 27/7 hrs.
By that time A covered only 19.28 =( 5* 27/7) km distance.
Now the Remaining distance is 27-19.28= 7.72 km.
When A and B met they have covered a certain lenght of distance in same time. Here the tie is common.
Now if from 7.72 km let us suppose that A has covered x km dist while B has covered 7.72-x km dist
Time taken by A = Time taken by B
x/5=(7.72-x)/7
solving we get
x= 3.21 km
now the distance between X and Z(the point where A nd B met) is (19.28 + 3.21) km =22.49 km..

B---------------| 7 KM/HR
TIME BY B TO COVER 27KM=3.85 HR
DISTANCE COVERED BY A IN 3.85 HR=19.28KM
NOW RELATIVE TIME WHERE THEY WILL MEET= 7.71/(5+7)=0.64 HR.
DISTANCE COVERED BY A IN 0.64 HR = 0.64*5=3.21 KM
SO TOTAL DISTANCE COVERED = 19.28+3.21=22.49 KM
SO DISTANCE FROM X TO Z IS 27-22.49 = 4.51 KM.

it shud b 11.25 bcoz distance travld is not asked .....distance b/w 2 points is asked so it shud b divided acc to 27
