Given 10,38,82,142,---,310
First we need to find difference between terms.
38-10=28
82-38=44
142=82=60
Here their differences are in AP with common difference d=16 therefore to get next term in 1st difference we add 16 to 60 to get next term which is 76
So 76 must be added to 142 to get next term in the series which is 218.
