ans: x=18

let total bullets are 3x. then all 3 people will have x bullets each.
each fired 4 bullets so now each will have (x-4) bullets.
total remaining bullets will be 3(x-4); since it is given that remaining bullets are equal to the initial division value so
3(x-4)=x;
x=6
initially we consider total bullets are 3x so it;s 18

or

consider total x bullets and follow same procedure accordingly, u will get the same 18. i consider 3x for the sake of easy calculation

ans:-18
x no of bullets divided between 3 people the each has x/3 no of bullets
by firing 4 bullets each has (x/3)-4 bullets
by adding all the remaining bullets of each is equal to the initial divison value so
(x/3-4)+(x/3-4)+(x/3-4)+(x/3-4)=x/3
x-12=x/3
3x-36=x
2x=36
x=18
