Harry was 21 years of age three years ago.

Present age of Harry = 24. age of Tim =8 yrs
After 8 years, age of harry = 32, age of Time will be 16 years.

If present ages of Harry and Tim are H and T respectively, then

H=3T, T = H/3
and
(H+8) = 2*(T+8) = 2T+16 = 2*H/3 +16
H/3 = 8
H=24 years.

so Harry was 21 years of age three years ago.

let harry is x yr old & tim is y yr old
x = 3y......(1)
after 8 yr:
(x+8) = 2 (y+8).....(2)
solving this
x= 24 & y= 8
Hence before 3 yr Harry was (24-3) = 21 yr old

=>t=8
=>h=24

let present age of tim is x
than present age of harry is 3*x
in eight years
(3*x+7)=2*(x+7)
present age of tim is x=7
and harry's age is 21
in eight years tim age will be 7+7=14
and harry age will be 21+7=28
so before three years harry age was 21-3=18
answer is 18

Harry age 3 years ago is 21 .

Lets present age of Harry = H and Tim = T .
given that H = 3T ...................(1)
and in 8 years , H + 8 = 2*(T+8) ......................(2)
replacing T = H/3 in e
