None of these is sufficient to know weather x & y is positive or not,,,

2x-2y=1
x-y=1/2
x=1/2+y
this means value of x depends on y and value of y can be obtained from 2nd condition
Now,putting x=1/2+y in ii.)
(1/2+y)/y>0
1/2+y>0
1+2y>0
2y>-1
y>-1/2
it means value of y can be -ve and the maximum possible -ve value of y can be 0.4 and when we put this in i.) i.e. in x=1/2+y we will always obtain +ve value of x.
therefore it's clear that it is not necesaary that both of them will be +ve,but the value of x will always be +ve.

Are x and y both positive?

1) 2x-2y=1
2(x-y)=1
x-y=1/2
-->3/4-1/4=1/2....YES
-->-1/4-(-3/4)=1/2...NO
INSUFFICIENT

2) x/y>0
This just means that x and y have the same sign. They're either both positive or both negative.
INSUFFICIENT

1&2)
x=1/2+y

(1/2+y)/y>0
y/2 + 1 > 0
y/2 > 0 which means that Y is greater than 0. And since both x and y have the same sign, both x and y are Positive. YES.

I agree (1) or (2) are INSUFFICIENT. but consider both of them together

(1) 2x-2y = 1
(2) x/y >1

Rephrasing (1)

x-y = 1/2
x = y + 1/2

Now substituting value of x in (2)

(y+1/2)/y >1

Solving:

1+ 1/2y > 1

so, 1/2y > 0 it means y >0 since x = y+1/2 s0 X >0 as well.

means x>y and result is +ve so x is +ve.
now x/y >0
let us assume the result be z means x/y =z
and z>0
so x is +ve and z is +ve so y is also +ve so answer is YES

from ii) x & y both have to positive or both have to be negative
but from i) nothing can be told surely. anyone can be positive or negative between x & y.
so both options are not sufficient

x=1/2+y

(1/2+y)/y>0
y/2 + 1 > 0
y/2 > 0
even it is comin y/2 > -1/2
but, x, y shd be of same sign
so, must be positive ...it is always better way to check dis wid xample

case 1
if x=1 &y=1/2 then the above equ satisfied
case 2
if x=-1/2 & y=-1
then also equ are true so for above equ x and y carry both +ve and -ve values

it is not necessary, x and y both maybe positive or negative. we can tell this by taking positive and negative values of x and y

SIMILARLR -4*2-2*(-9/2)=1 SO both the conditions are not sufficient
