let 100% seats are there in all then mathematics increased by 40% then
5*140/100=7
physics is increased by 50% then
7*150/100=21/2
biology increased by 75% then
8*175/100=14
then ratios of increasing seats are 7:21/2:14

regarding the ratio let sets are 500:700:800
after increasing 40%,50%,75% respectively the sets are 700:1050:1400 =2:3:4(ans(A)).

There is a proposal to increase these seats by 40%, 50% and 75% respectively.
Then Seats for Mathematics, Physics and Biology in a school will be 1.4* 5x, 1.5 *7x and 1.75* 8x and ratio will be 7:10.5 : 14 or 2:3:4 ...

when seats are increased by 40%, n will become 1.4 n.

so 5 x becomes 1.4*5x = 7x.
when increased by 50 % ,
n will become 1.5 n.
hence 7x becomes 1.5*7x =10.5 x.

why did you multiply with 1.4, 1.5 & 1.75

Given Ratio is 5:7:8
Percentage increased is 40% , 50% , 75%
so for easy calculation...
write 5:7:8 as 500:700:800
now after percentage increased, the values will be
700:1050:1400
by cancellation we get 2:3:4

1) 140/100*5=7
2) 150/100*7=21/2
3) 175/100*8=14
the ratio will be= 14:21/2:28=2:3:4
