suppose peter age=h
paul age=k
h+k=35 (given)
now suppose t years ago h was twice k.
(h-t)=2(k-t).....1
at that time h was as old as paul now
h-t=k........2
so from 1 & 2
2k-2t=k;
k=2t.......3
from 2 & 3
h=3t;......4
from 1 5t=35;
t=7;
from 4 h=21....
so peter is 21 year old...this should be ans.

present age of 2 friends is 35 years.
peter paul
2x y = 35
y x = 35 - 2(2x-y)
solving this x=20 and y =15
so peter current age is 20
ans is 20.

2x+y = 35
y+x = 35 - 2(2x-y)
solving this x=20 and y =15
so peter current age is 20
ans is 20.

Present age of Peter is 21.
Solution : Present age of Peter = 21. Present age of Paul = 14. Sum = 35.
When Peter was as old as Paul is now, i.e 14, Paul was 7. So Peter was twice old as Paul that time.

Age of Peter is 21.
As in the given question
Lets Peter age =x
and paul age 35-x;
and when peter was as old as paul is now mean when peter is 35-x yr old
then it is 2*(35-x-k)
so let wer equate these
35-x=2*(35-x-k)
x+2k=35
x-k=2k
x=3k
and get
k=7
and then x=21
