Solution

according to the given conditions x+y = 22
and x^2+y^2 = 404
now (x+y)^2 = x^2+y^2+2xy
so 22^2 = 404 + 2xy
so xy = 80/2 = 40

For shortcut process as for time management we takes options ..
1st we take option A)40
let the multiplication of 2 number we get 20*2=40 and also 5*8=40 or 4*10=40..
so therefore as for question we take 2number for their sum 20+2=22 ,as for question,then the square of 2 number is like that { (20)^2+(2)^2} =404.. so the question answer is matched..
the ans is option A) 40 .. Thank You...

x^2+y^2 = 404
now (x+y)^2 = x^2+y^2+2xy
so 22^2 = 404 + 2xy
so xy = 80/2 = 40
