The sum of three numbers is 98. If the ratio of the first to second is 2 :3 and that of the second to the third is 5 : 8,
ratio of these 3 numbers is 10:15:24.

second no = 98*15/49 = 30 ... option b).

Given,

A:B:C=98

A:B=2:3--------------------Eq.1 X 5
B:C=5:8--------------------Eq.2 X 3

Now Multiply Eq.1 by 5 and Eq.2 by 3 to get B common

Then

A:B=10:15
B:C=15:24

A:B:C=10:15:24

10X+15X+24X=98

49X=98
X=2

Then Second Number is 15X i.e

B=15x2=30 Ans

a : b = 2 : 3

b : c = 5 : 8 = (5*3/5 : 8*3/5)
= 5 : 24/5
therefore,
a : b : c = 2 : 3 : 24/5 = 10 : 15 : 24
here b ratio is 15/49
so b = (15/49) x 98 = 30
option b is the answer

let 3 nos. be a,b,c...
a/q a+b+c=98..(1)
a/b=2/3...
3a=2b ....and b/c=5/8
8b=5c
so using (1)
2/3b+b+8/5b=98
b=30

let assume that the three numbers are x: y: z
x : y = 2 : 3 .........(1)
y : z = 5 : 8 .........(2)
we want to equal the Y in both of the equation
so equation (1) * 5 = 10 : 15
equation (2) * 3 = 15 : 24
now the three number ratio is x : y : z = 10 : 15 : 24
sum of the ratio are = 10 + 15 + 24 = 49
for the second number = (15/ 49) * 98 = 30
so, the answer is 30
