If he runs up 6 steps, then he needs 45 seconds to reach the top.

If he runs up 14 steps, then he needs 33 seconds to reach the top.

8 additional steps take 12 sec.

so each step takes 12/8 =1.5 sec.

Total steps in escalator = 6 + 45 / 1.5 = 36 or Total steps in escalator = 14 + 33/ 1.5 = 36.

he would reach the top of the escalator in 54 seconds (i.e., 36 steps × 1.5 seconds/step).
