initial s.p.=400
reduced s.p.=380
loss=2%(it means 400-380=20, is equivalant to 2%)
so , 2%=20, 1%=10,and
100%=1000
ans=Rs1000

Let the cost price = x
so loss in first case = x-400 (consider this as 100%)
now loss in second case = x-380 (consider this as 102%)
so (x-400)/100 = (x-380)/102
or 102x-40800 = 100x-38000
or 2x = 2800 or x = 1400
none of the option is correct

ans is Rs. 1400..none of the option is correct.
original SP=Rs.400, loss1=CP-400
after reduction SP=Rs.380, loss2=CP-380
according to question, loss is increased by 2%..
loss2=loss1+2%of loss1
putting values for loss1 and loss2 from above, x=Rs. 1400
hence, CP=Rs.1400

First loss =100x-40000/X
Second loss = 100x-38000/X
Given
((100x-38000)/x)-((100x-40000)lX)=2
100x-38000-100x+40000 =2x
2000=2x
X=1000
