Option A 24 years
2x+8/5x+8=1/2
solving this we get x=8
so the present ages is 2*8:5*8=16:40
Difference between the ages =40-16=24

let d ratio of their ages be 2x and 5x respectively .
now as per ques.

aftr 8 yrs:

2x+8/5x+5 = 1/2
2(2x+8)=5x+8
4x+16=5x+8

5x-4x=16-8
x=8

therefore nila's age= 2*8 = 16 yrs
arjun's age = 5*8 = 40 yrs

Diff. between their ages is = 40-16 = 24 yrs
