he sold it 6 bits per pound.total pound=40.then selling price=40*6=240.it was given he made 33 1/2 percent profit,then the original price=180(x+x*33 1/2=240,then x=180)then 1st equation is 5A+3B=180,he mixes 2 brand to get 40 pound so 2nd eq. A+B=40,after solving these equations ,we will get A=30................

Total mixture=40 pound
selling price of 40 pound mixture=(40*6)=240bit
cost price=(240*100)/(100+33.5)=179.77=180bit
cost per pound=(180/40)=4.5bit
using alligation formulae:-
(n1/n2)=(5-4.5)/(4.5-3)=3:1
so A=30..

let x and y quantities of A and B respectively are mixed
x+y=40
his total selling price.....40*6=240
his cost price ..............180 approx(as he makes 33.5 % profit)
5x+3y=180
solving u get x=30 and y=10
hence ans 30 pounds

240-[5*x+(40-x)*3]=[5*x+(40-x)*3]*33 1/2%
=>240-(2x+120)=(2x+120)*(67/2)*(1/100)
=>24000-400x=134x+8040
=>x=(15960/534)
=>x=29.88
x near about 30
so, 30 pound of Brand A is mixed
