1.9 balls 3 parts 3 in each part
Weight any two part if defective found then well and good else defective in the third part.
2.now divide the defective part(3 balls) in another 3 parts 1 1 1
weight any two if defective ball found ten well and good else 3 ball defective.

If take 1st ball and it is defective.
So, minimum 1 chance.

we will divide into 2 weights 5 and 4
that is one way
5 will become 3 and 2
and we will have to divide


so answer is 3

Minimum Chance is 1..( 9 balls. Juzt weigh 4-4, if it is equal then other one is defective. )
Maximum chances is 3 ( weigh 4-4, if any one is higer, then divde by 2-2, and 1-1 finally u will get the defective one)

Minimum Chance is when he pick the ball in first chance only thus ..probability of getting a defective ball out of 9 is -> (1/9)

minimum 3 chances to found the defective ball....
we take 4+4 ball if there is any defective some change in this weight.
we take the defective side and split into 2+2 then we can easily found the defective ball

Min chance is 1. I faced this question in interview yesterday and i said the sol as follows:
take 4 on each side of balance and if it shoes equal then the remaining one is defective.

9=(5,4) again divide 5 in (3,2) ist chance-> we aplly in 2. now we have 4+3 i.e 7 ball, again divide 7=(4,3). now divide 3=(2,1) in 2nd chance we can get again defective one. now we have 4 balls now divide into 4=(3,1) in 3rd chance 3=(2,1) we can get the defective one. IN ALL ABOVE PROCESS WHERE THERE IS 1 BALL NO NEED TO CHECK SO NEGLECTED.
