A alone can do a work in 12 days. A and B together finished work and got rs.54 and rs.18 respectively. In how many days was the work finished?

Solution

A does the work in 12 days
and A and B together finished work and got rs.54 and rs.18 respectively
so B will do work in 12*3 = 36 days (because he got 1/3 money relative to other)
so one day work = 1/12 + 1/36 = 4/36 = 1/9
so total days required = 9

Together with B, he finished work and got Rs.54 and B got Rs.18.

Without B means, A will got
---> 54 + 18 = 72Rs in 12 days
(i.e., 72/12 = 6Rs per day).

With B, A received = 54Rs.

-->That means, 54/6 = 9days.

So, in 9 days work has been finished together.
