Original Cheque amount x y
Bank Gave y x
20 Paise spent balance y x-20
Double of Cheque Value 2x 2y
This is same as 2x+1 2y-100 (Here we have used
the fact that 100
paise = 1 Re) We
have removed 100
paise and added 1
Rupee. So the value
remains the same !!
Now we have two equation in x and y such as

2x-y = -1
x-2y = -80

solving these for x and y gives the answer as

x=26 and y=53

Hence the value written in cheque is Rs 26.53
